On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, The Historical Society of Palm Beach County will host a multimedia presentation by Mr. Rick Smith: "A Land Remembered." This event will be held at 7:00 pm, in the 3rd Floor Courtroom inside the historic 1916 Palm Beach County Courthouse, 300 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Book sales and signing and a reception will immediately follow the presentation.
Friends members may attend this event for $10, a 50% discount off the Historical Society's standard $20 non-member admissions price. As this event may sell out, we recommend that you reserve your seats now. Free parking is available directly across the street of the north side of the 1916 Courthouse. Parking lot entry is at the southeast corner of 4th street and Dixie Highway across from the West Palm Beach Fire Rescue Station. This parking lot will be available at 6:00 pm on the night of the lecture.

Patrick Smith, author of Florida's favorite novel--A Land Remembered--is a literary icon. Inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame and nominated multiple times for the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature, in June he was presented the "Great Floridian" award during a personal visit by Florida Governor Rick Scott. Smith has clearly made his mark on Florida.
A popular speaker at events all over the state for many years, Patrick no longer goes out. His son Rick, a professional media producer living in California, has taken up the call and is touring Florida with a high energy, multimedia and multi-sensory presentation about his famous father, his life and the experiences that led him to write his books.
Rick's show combines his own quirky brand of humor and storytelling with videos, family photos, music, sound effects and visual effects to bring this writer's colorful life into focus. Patrick himself makes several appearances throughout the video to tell fascinating and humorous stories about key experiences in his life.
The show takes approximately 75 minutes. Books and the popular DVD Rick made about his father, "Patrick Smith's Florida, A Sense of Place" will be available for sale. "I'm happy to sign the books for people," Rick says, "even though my father is the author. At least my name is also Patrick Smith (Jr.)," he quips. There's time for audience questions and answers afterwards.
Audiences are sure to be amazed, amused, and inspired at the life of this humble writer that is beloved by readers of all ages. They may even learn a thing or two they didn't know about the state of Florida.
